Adam: Hey so what do we think about Barak Obama... I mean we have had several posts about him, but are you ready for him as your president?
Jeremy: At first I really didn’t have a problem with him, and was even proud of myself for being open minded and kinda liking a black/"muslim named" dude being president.
BUT...
My feelings for him have strongly declined since the campaign began. I don’t see any substance to any of his rhetoric. I mean, it might work well at a motivational conference, but I’m afraid it will take more than that to be president of America, and of course I’ve heard some people give me some tidbits of his past voting record that did not sound good. Granted those came from people who don’t like him, and I have not done my own research on his record.
I can’t help but hear the negative things about him possibly being Muslim. I mean even you, I think, would rather have a Mormon than a Muslim?
Then of course, there is the whole abortion/same sex marriage which is very important to me.
Between him and McCain it's not even close who I would vote for. Now, since I am a registered democrat, I’ll have to make a decision between him and Hilary, and if I go to the primary polls and there is another option, I might just take it, or I might just leave it blank. I was hoping for more than just a socialistic/immoral approach to politics from the democrats, but apparently they are incapable.
Adam: Hmmm... I agree he seems to be all rhetoric all the time, and his voting record does not jive with my own personal principals... examples being abortion and pro socialist policy. I think the Muslim deal is stupid gossip started by rednecks that send forwards on without having a clue what they are talking about. Even at that a Muslim scares me less then Mormons because at least Islam is a world religion with over a thousand years of history. Mormons are fake Christians from America with less than 100 years of phonies and lies to trick people. I think McCain is a qualified leader and so I think he is a better choice than Obama, but when it comes to qualifications I think Hillary and Obama have about the same about of experience.
Jeremy: Who does McCain have a better chance of beating?
Adam: Hillary in my mind... I mean some people may not vote for Obama because he is black, but I think for the most part Obama is a more uniting force than McCain... though McCain will be able to unite as well
Jeremy: North Carolina primary is a ways off, but I don’t think it will really matter by the time it comes around.
Adam: May it not?
Jeremy: They make it sound like it’s basically over. Obama vs. McCain.
Adam: Negative. Hillary may have no momentum, but she does have a real chance. Because democrats split their votes proportionally she could have a chance all the way to democratic national convention when the super delegates make their choices.
Jeremy: I guess we will see. Most of the media seems to disagree with you.
Adam: Check CNN.com and tell me what the difference in delegates between the two is today.
Jeremy: In that case the race might be really tight by the time it gets to NC, but it’s not like NC has a ton of sway either way.
Adam: Yeah but in the last two elections it came down Florida in one and Ohio in another to determine the winner...
Jeremy: I don’t think that. It’s just hard to vote for non worthy candidates.
Adam: Like Ron Paul?
Jeremy: Like everyone.
Adam: You get the feeling that no matter which candidates get the nod you really don't have a choice?
Jeremy: Hmm....that might be part of it, but I was just thinking that it seems all the people running for president right now won’t really do a great job. I mean, being the president is a super hard job, so it definitely will take someone special to handle the responsibility. I don’t really think any of these guys/gals are that special, but who the heck knows. I could be very wrong.
Adam: I was just thinking about that Rage Against the Machine video for Testify…

Adam and Jeremy Say: We Guarantee at Least Three References to Punk Rock.
There is a load of great music that found its way to your local Plan 9 today...
Against Me! - New Wave - Yeah the hype keeps building... if you like NOFX, the Dead Kennedys, and Rage Against the Machine you will totally love these guys!
Interpol - Our Love To Admire - The Joy Division comparisons will not stop with new album, but that's a good thing if you were already into them... and if you don't know who they are then this is a good time to find out you love them.
Bad Religion - New Maps of Hell - Ever heard the cliche "don't judge a book by its cover"? Well sometimes that's total rubbish, but even if they are a bit antagonistic they have payed all the dews and deserve a listen from you.
Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga - Seriously I had to count the number of "Ga's" when I was typing this... but no matter... if you have ever found yourself in some hipster boutique humming something about "the way you get by" or "turning your camera on" then you are a fan of this band and you did not even know it... find out why now.

Adam and Jeremy Say: RATM82407.com; it gets us all hot an bothered!
By now you have no doubt heard the buzz about www.ratm82407.com. The site appears to dedicated to some news about Rage Against the Machine (thus our giddiness over it), the site features two count down clocks, and the intro to Bulls on Parade (We suggest you kill the sound because the intro becomes annoying quickly when put on repeat). At any rate the clocks count down this coming Monday and August 24th respectively! Speculation about the site abounds but personally Adam and Jeremy hope that the site is counting down to an announcement about Rage Against the Machine getting back together! and then and album... we can dream we can dream.

Adam and Jeremy Say: They May Hate Us, But Do We Hate Them?
So Jeremy and I wanted to contiune our "They Hate Us and Liberty" Conversation from last week. If you did not catch it here is a link back to it, and I want to appologize in advance for the lenght of these posts, but both Jeremy and I got really into it and we hope that you chime in again with your insights.
Adam: I am really glad people like CJ are willing to hold our feet to the fire and test our faith. We could easily make all sorts of posts about faith, but never actually live out the words we write. I think it is great that people are willing to challenge each other. On some points CJ is right... I have met a handful of homosexual people in my life, and honestly I have always been too afraid to talk with them about their sexuality because I want to act normal around them, and I don’t want to offend anyone. I guess its some twisted logic of mine that I want people who are different from me to feel the same as people who are the same as me... but in that process I learn about jobs, sports, cars, etc. but I never learn about the deeper issues a person is facing. I think the point CJ makes is that we want to be loving and accepting of people, but until we stop “acting” loving and accepting and start getting to know what is going on below the surface then we will never really be able to know and love them... maybe he is right...
Jeremy: I agree. He is right in that Jesus tells us to be loving, and we should definitely do that with everyone including gays. But I also think he makes a good point, that we can say we love them, but if we don't make a little extra effort like "getting to really know one and talk to them about it", then are we really loving them or just simply "treating them normal"? Take for example my brother. I have never had a deep intimate conversation about his sexuality with him (then again, what straight brothers usually have that conversation?). I think he knows I love him, and unlike my dad and sister I have never had an argument with him about it and told him he was wrong. Plus, inviting Gary (my brothers partner) to our wedding I think was an effort of me and Jax to show that we still want them to be part of our lives even though we don't agree. I remember the rest of my family all reacting funny when we told them we were inviting Gary. I’m not trying to buff myself up, but all to say, I think we were making an effort, but I still haven’t gone as far as CJ has described with asking the hard, personal questions.
And the following is probably a good indicator as to why I should ask:
“I don't want to because I know it could make me uncomfortable.”
Adam: I think in some measure you are right in loving your brother and Gary without asking tough questions about their sexuality... I mean you know they are gay... so I don't know if there is a need to go past that... now you may want to talk to your brother about how he discovered his sexuality... or if something like your parents divorce had something to do with it, but I think those are questions about people and not questions about sexual preference... in the end the only difference between you and he is your fondness for the fairer sex right?
It was either Peter or Paul who said that we as Christians should focus on what is good, pure, beautiful, fare, just, etc. in our pursuit of peace, and I think the same holds true with anyone who you interact with... your focus should not be what their sins are or what your differences’ are, but instead your focus should be what is good, beautiful, and pure in them. We are all God's creation and on that level we are all equal.
I don't think we need to speak anymore about Dr. Falwell since that topic has been so overdone of late. So let’s move past that to an interesting point. Several people who commented made reference to living like Christ, and how if we lived like Christ then we would be respected and loved. I have a few thoughts on that. One it is interesting how a conversation about the hateful things people say about Liberty and its students has become so personal to you and I. I think I was originally just ticked at the hypocrisy of people who called themselves open minded but then stereotyped every Liberty student in a negative manner.
I think that people forget what the teachings of Christ where and what they meant... Jesus Christ was killed for his teachings and actions obviously they are not they kind of teachings and actions that make everyone love and adore you. I agree that Jesus tough a great amount about loving your neighbor and doing right and there are many Christians today who do not do anything close to that on a personal level,
However Christ also told us to die to ourselves, to admit that there is a God who created us and is over us and we should obey Him, He taught that we need to sacrifice in order that others can be first, He told us we must serve, all of which runs counter to Americas current culture. Now we want what’s best for us, no matter the cost. We make the rules we decide what is right and what is wrong, we put ourselves first and make others pay. Our society is Greedy, Selfish, and as I said before Shameless. These are all things Jesus preached against, violently at times, just ask the Pharisees in the Temple when Jesus cleaned house. So I don't know if people really mean it when they tell others to follow Christ’s' example or if maybe they just want us to follow the parts of Christ example that are warm and fuzzy.
Finally I think what you and I do in our service to the Lord as far as serving; loving, giving and sacrifice are personal and are not appropriate for this medium. Obviously if someone challenges you on your actions of love you want to respond with a list of all the righteous things you have done, but that defeats the purpose. We are called to love unconditionally not because it makes us look or feel good but because it is what God asks of us. I think Jesus summed it up when told the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector (I might have the wrong occupation there) who were both at the temple praying... the Pharisee was praying out loud in flowery language so everyone could see how holy he was while the tax collector prayed silently and was humble... in the end Jesus tells us that the righteous man was the tax collector because he was praying to God while the Pharisee was really praying to impress man.
Jeremy: Good call. I don't want to give a list to prove our piety either. I like what you said on focusing on what is good, pure, and right. The hard part about that is that there is a "sexual preference" wall in between us, and I guess we could just ignore it....or can you? I guess the truth is, we can still love them despite them being gay, and we can even be loving in a conversation about it with them, but doesn't that also mean being open and honest from our perspective? I mean we can always sit there and listen and understand, but shouldn't I also be able to be honest about how I feel about it? Can I still be loving and tell them why I think what they are doing is wrong?
Adam: I think you are touching on an important point there... Dialogue! It does not really matter what the difference is; whether it’s sexual preference, political ideals or your favorite music we should all be open and willing to talk about it. That becomes tough though when dialogue turns into abuse, and it is even tougher to begin dialogue when it begins with abuse, as was the case when we began this discussion. I would like to see a place where people could all hold to the same standard in relation to dialoguing differences... it seems so often that one side is required to be accepting and loving while the other side can become offended and vindictive. You are right in saying that you should be able to be honest about how you feel and in return a person who disagrees with you should be honest about how they feel, but I think that too often we make comments about our feelings without giving concrete reasoning behind our feelings, and that can be a problem.
Take the abortion debate for example. I oppose the practice of abortion, and when I discuss this topic if I stopped there and just told people I was in opposition to the practice then the conversation would not get very far, but I try to take it a step or two further. I explain that I support the use of birth control before conception and that I huge supporter of adoption after birth, but I believe that abortion is wrong because it ends the life of a person created by God. Sometimes this gives me an opportunity to talk about common ground with people who do not agree. For example many who support the practice are also supporters of adoption and are more willing to talk about adoption than wasting time trying to beat each other up over abortion. However there are those who will argue and be hateful no matter what, and I guess it is those types of people who began this whole thing... and while we have yet to come up with an answer that satisfies I do think this discussion has given us pause to think...
Do we understand others? Are we giving them a chance to explain so that we can understand? Are we meeting people’s physical needs? Can we comprehend a person’s point of view if we have not had any real contact with that person’s world?
As cynical as it sounds Rage Against the Machine may have had a point when they sang "Know your enemy" not that I view those who disagree and oppose me as enemies but I think it is beneficial to understand who they are.
In the end the Bible tells us that Christians will be known by there love for one another, and I hope that people can see that you and I are loving

Adam Says: Rage Garners Negative Media Coverage
How appropriate that on May Day, when union workers and secularist are being beaten and kicked by "police" in Turkey for celebrating the proletariat, the San Jose Mercury news would blow the coverage of the completely awesome Rage Against the Machine (Adam and Jeremy Favorites) performance at the Coachella Festival; reporting that Rage front man Zack de la Rocha..."He also railed against the war in Iraq and likened Bush administration officials to Nazi war criminals.
"This current administration is no exception. They should be tried and hung and shot," he said."
That's strange because we just read that same quote on the Rolling Stone review of the concert, and they completely missed that whole Nazi thing... don't believe me? Read for yourself..."During the final pre-encore song, “Wake Up,” de la Rocha finally spoke to the crowd at length, spitting a furious political rant that began by suggesting that every U.S. president should have been hung for war crimes. “This current administration is no exception –- they should be hung and tried and shot,” he said, during the song’s breakdown. “But the challenges we face go beyond the current administration… It’s not a system that changes every four years.. It’s a system we have to tear down, generation after generation.” The band moved back into the main riff, while de la Rocha screamed “Wake up!”"
Odd it seems that bias does not know blue or red, but only green! Sure Rage is over the top, but at least they are trying to draw attention to the plight of the poor and working class the world over... the class that makes it possible for me to sit on this computer right now and make this post...

Adam Says:Muisic that is too cool for you...
Some Guy Named Tom.
So I am on Stereogum today watching this rad video that I will speak about at length in a bit, but first I must tell you about Buffalo Tom! No clue who the band is really, I just heard it on the "gum mix," liked it and thought I should pass it on... no preasure... just one of those things that pops into your head and if someone digs it than great...
New Derek Webb!!!
The latest from Derek Webb drops this week! The Ringing Bell is amazing and you should own it... Jeremy and I can't say enough about Derek Webb, so we will let his music do the talking.
Does Even THIS Surprise Us Ms. Love?
So apparently Courtney Love is still producing music, and apparently she is still a mess! Pitchfork is reporting that Ms. Love will be auctioning of Kurt Cobain's stuff, which shouldn't really suprise us because 1) she needs money for crack 2) she need publicity for her upcoming album and 3) she is pure evil. If it wasn't official before it is now; Courtney Love has reached full Yoko Ono status.
Coachella Coverage Abounds.
More Coachella than you could ever need... thanks AT&T

As Jeremy stated before we love Rage Against the Machine, and so the more reviews we can get from their Coachella performance the better!
News Flash: Bjork is Enigmatic and Beautiful!
Bjork's new album "Volta" hits next week, but you can hear the whole thing online right now thanks to NME; which may be a great idea given the buzz her Coachella performance is creating. Oh and because we are contractually obligated we must mention that Bjork is enigmatic and beautiful... carry on.
Speaking of Music Online... (I do way to many "...'s")
Aol is streaming music this week, but it is all pretty lame. You can hear the Spider-Man 3 soundtrack which actually features three or four great singles from bands like Snowpatrol, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and the Killers of all people, but don't blow all the cash in your piggy bank for this one... as is the case with almost all soundtracks you could really just go spend four bucks on iTunes to get the singles and skip the rest of the pointless filler... and yes I am lumping the Flaming Lips into that category (sac relig right?)
The Greatest Office Ever!
So if you are under the age of thirty you have no doubt visited www.collegehumor.com before; well it turns out that these folks are actually part of a larger company that's not really important except to say that they have an office that may just be the funnest office of all time... even funner than Dunder Mifflan! here is the video to prove it...
Blender Magazine: Trying to Capitalize on Trends Since 2001.
Holy crap Blender sucks! Just read their 500 top albums since your were born list... that is if you were born after 1979... Mindless populist rubbish... I think thats a series of questions on
Jeopardy! (Yes I realize that the exclamation point was superfluous, but that literally the title of the program "Jeopardy!")
What the Sparhawk is THAT?
Some of you may have heard of the meolodic/plodding pop-band Low; it's another one of those husband and wife things... the husband being Alan Sparhawk (cool name right?) So he is being featured on as a Take Away Show this week, and I think he is great so you should click here now!
Listen to Feist, California Needs Your Help.
Oh goodness Feist has a new album out and last time I checked California was harnessing the release of pent up excitment being released by her multitudes of fans... or something like that. Go to her myspace page and listen to the whole album for yourself, and maybe you can help California advert its energy crisis.

Oh goodness Feist has a new album out and last time I checked California was harnessing the release of pent up excitment being released by her multitudes of fans... or something like that. Go to her myspace page and listen to the whole album for yourself, and maybe you can help California advert its energy crisis.

Adam and Jeremy Say: Rock Not Dead... Yet.
Modest Mouse drops their latest project "We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank" Releases tomorrow! Adam and Jeremy highly recommend these nihilist rockers from the left coast (despite the nihilism and the left coast thing.) But if you need a little more prodding to go pick up their album then click here and listen to the entire album streamed by AOL. Thanks to Popcandy for the DL.Update: The latest tour dates for Modest Mouse have been released on Pitchfork... check it out.
Speaking of exciting releases on the horizon... Chevelle will be dropping their latest head banger, "Vena Sera" (which may mean "Vein Liquid," but that's just something we read on the Internet so take it for what its worth.), hits stores April 3, 2007. The lead single "Well Enough Alone" has been littering the modern rock air waves, taking us back to when Adam and Jeremy made a living out of playing "The Red" and Blindside's "King of the Closet" on their critically acclaimed radio program.
Maybe the biggest music news of the year is the reunion of Rage Against the Machine! Oh yes the angry Adam and Jeremy fav's are getting back together for the Rock the Bells tour this summer with the Wu Tang Clan. Those of us on the East Coast will have once chance to catch them July 28th in NYC... buy your tickets today because this show is going to be huge... on a side not we certainly hope that this leads to more Rage Against the Machine albums because honestly rock music has not been the same since they left.
In case you missed it indie pop-rockers Mates of State were featured on this weekends edition of "This American Life" log onto the TAL website to check out the podcast featuring a live cover of "California" by our favorite husband and wife music act. The appearance of "This American Life" got us over to the Mates of State website where we found out that they have teamed up with PETA to do an anti fur ad. Well you can see that its certainly eye catching; if you want to know more check out the bands site.

Adam Says: i am calm like a BOMB!
I will say it... I AM STOKED!!! The greatest band in the world (at least according to my CD collection in high school) is getting back together and doing a number of shows this summer! No I am not talking about those living fossils in the Police I am talking about Rage Against the Machine (for some odd reason I am
fighting the urge to drop curse words into their name ala Jimmy Fallon on the VMA's when he introduced "Guns N @#$(ing Roses") Alright so Rage says "hey lets reunite for Coachella." mostly because Audioslave is now no more and so boom they do it and Coachella is totally sold out so now they are adding tour dates with the WU-Tang Clan... those of you below the twenty one mark may not know that they did this once before in a ground breaking series of concerts that ultimately fell apart because Wu Tang members got arrested and stuff like that... Wow I am totally pumped I hope they do more than Cali/NYC dates (though that's all I know of right now) The LA Times has done a piece on them that I will paste bellow, but they got it all wrong because they talk about this like its some big outdated over the hill rock star reunion gig for money... anyone who knows Rage knows that these guys are still in their prime still relevant and they would never do anything just for money.... Awesomeness... completely GNARLY!.... www.ratm.com

It turns out Rage Against the Machine will play more than one show after all--the seminal L.A. band will join the Wu-Tang Clan for three shows under the banner of Rock the Bells, the acclaimed hip-hop festival that kicks off in New York on July 28 and hits Southern California on Aug. 11.
That local show will be at the National Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino while the third show, on Aug. 18, will be in San Francisco. The sites of the New York and San Francisco shows as well as ticket sales information will be announced by organizers on Monday.
Rage is already the closing-night headliner of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 29 in Indio, a festival that sold out 80 days in advance due to the pent-up fan demand for the Los Angeles band. Rage played their last show in 2000.
That Coachella show was announced as a "one-and-done" affair but the quick sellout and the harsh-priced ticket scalping already underway are among the factors in the added shows, according to sources close to the band. There's also the historical punch of performing with Wu-Tang Clan, one of the most ambitious and influential hip-hop outfits ever.
"Rage will do four shows and just four in 2007," said Chang Weisberg, the founder of Guerilla Union and organizer of Rock the Bells. "Coachella is first, that's the granddaddy. And now these three with the Wu-Tang Clan represent a very, very special thing."
The New York hip-hop collective has already announced the planned summer release of "8 Diagrams," the Clan's first album since "Iron Flag" in 2001. The album will feature new contributions from eight of the nine members from its classic line-up: RZA, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Raekwon, GZA, Inspectah Deck, U-God and Masta Killa. The ninth member, the late ODB, who died in 2005, will appear in the form of previously recorded material.
RZA said in a released statement in November that the contemporary doldrums of hip-hop demand a return by the flamboyant and potent Clan: "People want something that gives them an adrenaline rush. We're here to supply that fix. How could hip-hop be dead if Wu-Tang is forever? We're here to revive the spirit and the economics and bring in a wave of energy that has lately dissipated."
More details on the shows, including an on-sale date, will come Monday via the "Kevin & Bean" morning show on KROQ-FM (106.7), the powerhouse rock station in Los Angeles.
Fans have been hopeful that Rage will tour but, according to Weisberg, these three new dates and the Coachella appearance are the extent of the current comeback. Rage helped launch Coachella in 1999 when the band co-headlined the inaugural edition of the huge festival.
Rage guitarist Tom Morello has said that the reunion is driven in part by politics and a desire by him and his compatriots to rally young people against President Bush, the war in Iraq and the Republican Party.
When Rage split, frontman Zack de la Rocha went solo while Morello, drummer Brad Wilk and bassist Tim Commerford went on as Audioslave, adding singer Chris Cornell and releasing three albums. That band's future came into question with the recent Rage reunion stirrings and likely ended altogether with the Feb. 15 announcement by Cornell that he is moving on due to "irresolvable personality conflicts and musical differences."
Morello, meanwhile, is also launching a new solo career as the Nightwatchman, the stage name he uses for his aggressive and largely acoustic protest music. His album, "One Man Revolution," is due in stores April 24 and he will tour in the spring.
If Rage as a whole also tours soon it would add to a summer of major reunions hitting the road; the members of the Police and Genesis have set aside their famous quarrels and are gearing up for road runs, while the notoriously fractious Eagles are finishing their first studio album since 1979 and are expected to tour as well.
